VH Frauenakademie international Book Club

I host two book clubs at the VH Ulm within the Frauenakademie, the Women’s Academy, a lifelong learning offering for Women.

The English Book Club was created in 2016 and I have been hosting it since 2019.

In my time as a host we have read and discussed forty books from all over the world (written in English).

To adapt to the demands of our modern lifestyle this course is now offered as an online activity via Zoom in the evenings instead of at the VH in the mornings.

We meet four times each semester for 75 minutes roughly every 4-6 weeks and read and discuss four books.

There is always a theme and we choose the books together. You can join in any time.

Winter 2023/2024

We discuss one book each session. The theme for this semester is books by female winners of major literature prizes.

October 12 – Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver

November 9 – Home by Marilynne Robinson (325 pages)

December 7 – An American Marriage by Tayari Jones (308 pages)

January 18 –  We Need to Talk About Kevin by Lionel Shriver (400 pages)

Thursday 19:00-20:30

plus an in person meeting to get to know fellow local book lovers and to chat about books in Ulm (free of charge)

Contact me with any questions. You can sign up here. If you know of other women interested in joining the Frauenakademie international Book Club please pass along the information.

Thank you

Mirjam Mahler
